Albie is just over 4 months old now. He is at such an exciting age as everything around him is new and interesting. Now that he is past the new born stage he wants to interact with people and his surroundings more. I have really enjoyed these last few months of trying new activities and taking him to different classes. Here is a list of our favourite activities/things to do.
1. Going outside
The weather can be very unpredictable in the UK but going outside is a great way to engage your baby in a new environment. Even taking a short walk in either a sling or pushchair and providing a change in the scenery is beneficial . The new sounds, smells, colours are all so fascinating for a little one. Albie has just upgraded to his pushchair instead of his carrycot because he really wanted to see what was going on outside. He really pays attention and looks at the different coloured leaves or the people walking past. I also find that going outside and getting fresh air is great for lifting my spirits. If Albie is a bit fussy a nice walk soon settles him as well.

2. Reading
It is never too young to start reading to your baby. Research suggests that reading to your children stimulates their imagination and helps develop language and listening skills. Albie joined the library when he was 2 weeks old. There is no age limit! He loves to look at bright pictures in books and smiles when I exaggerate sounds and words to him. We read lots of books from the library that we got on his card. They are all free so why not! We feel that reading the Bible to him even from such a small age is really important too. His face lights up and he really looks like he is taking it all in. I’m sure that there is something about the rhythm of my voice when I read that he enjoys too.

3. Sensory box play
This is a great way to play with your baby. you can use items from your house and it doesn’t have to cost a lot. I made a sensory box from a gift box of Albie’s . A shoebox will work just the same. just cut out one of the long sides of the shoe box and then with double sided tape stick all different materials and textures for baby to explore and feel. I used cotton wool, ribbons, crinkly envelopes, wool and some hessian sack. Place baby on tummy and let them explore the different textures. I had some crinkly paper from a gift that he loves to play with as well.
4. Music
Music is a great way to interact with your baby. Albie loves to listen to all kinds of music and I find it helps sooth him. Local libraries offer rhyme time where parents and babies sing nursery rhymes together with musical instruments. He smiles and coos whilst we sing and he loves to watch the other children as well. We also have a couple of CDs that I play in the background at home.

5. Bubbles
Bubbles provide so much enjoyment. Albie finds them so mesmerizing. I find them useful when he has tummy time as he will lift his head higher trying to find them and I can control where they go.

6. Laughs and giggles
When Albie laughs it is the cutest thing ever. He laughs when I make silly faces or say words funny. He loves to look at himself in the mirror and for some reason laughs even more. being silly is one of our favourite things to do.
